 If you're like many bloggers, you're wanting to take a few days off to enjoy time with friends and family this Memorial Day weekend, but also post something to honor our war heros who have paid for our freedom with their lives.
Of course live-blogging is also an option, but you also may want to consider going ahead and post-dating (or future-date posting) your material now, so you can actually get away from the computer for a day or two. Perhaps you have a personal story and appropriate photo from a previous event, like I did, in In Memory of Self, but if not, there are lots of places online to get good content.
The Library of Congress, and Wikimedia Commons are excellent sources of historical information and photos that in in the "public domain," (i.e., they're not copyrighted, and they're free for you to use). Another way to find great photos in the Library of Congress is to search Google Images for "loc" photos (That's how I found the photo you see on this post).
Holidays and special events are fantastic opportunities for bloggers to exchange links, network, and expand their readerships by inviting guest posts, and by cross-posting. If you know of someone who has a Memorial Day story to share, interview that person, or invite the person to contribute a post for your blog. Also, watch for Memorial Day posts in your feed reader, and if you see one that would be appropriate for your blog, contact the blogger, and see if he or she would mind if you cross-posted (this is the blogging equivalent of "syndication") on your blog.
Whatever you and your familes are doing this weekend, have a wonderfully blessed time, and remember to pay tribute to those who have made the freedom we enjoy every day possible.
