What's wrong with this picture (Sign into MySpace with Facebook)?

Just when you think you've seen it all...

As I wrote about earlier in the month, the social network formerly known as "MySpace," (now Myspace) is still sticking to their guns in making its name untypable.

MySpace and Facebook had a big press conference today, and announced that you can now sign into MySpace with your Facebook account - using the Facebook Connect button that you've probably seen on a lot of social networks.  For you, doing so will help you coordinate your likes and contacts on both accounts.  For the networks, this just made MySpace an unofficial Facebook music/entertainment app.

Here's a quick demo.

Newsflash: The social network formerly known as "MySpace" is now "Myspace."

If you somehow missed the MySpace.com rage, circa the early 21st century, no worries.  It really doesn't seem to be making come-back.  Not yet. But it's not for lack of trying.

Last week, it came out with this whole new "Prince (or 'the artist formerly known as Prince')" styled advertising campaign, and tried to re-market itself as "My_" (except they were using a special character not even available in most alphabets in place of the underscore mark - see above right).  Now, apparently they've decided to change from "MySpace" to "Myspace."  Do you see the difference?  I didn't catch it at first, either - the "s" is now not capitalized."  Altogether now,  Wooooooo.... It seems that odd little untypable symbol may just be used in advertising?  We're not sure.

Anyway, to their credit, they have decided to focus on the one thing they were really good at anyway (besides providing a platform for sellers of porn for all ages), which is helping aspiring musicians and other entertainers get their music out to the public.  According to the press release:

Specifically, Myspace will provide people with the ability to:

  • Discover and engage with Myspace’s broad array of programming, including originals, exclusives and content from around the Web.

  • Express, collect, and display their creations and interests on their profiles and through sharing tools.

  • Connect to other fans with similar tastes.

Myspace will also focus on promoting curators – a subset of its audience whose reputation and knowledge around particular entertainment topics and emerging cultural trends make them uniquely influential – by supporting them with the resources, tools and a platform to expand their reach within the Myspace community.

Here's a video explaining the details:
