Powerpoint Schmowerpoint

Posted Wed, February 16, 2011 by Jennifer Pointer

From time to time, you may want to show your website or blog readers how to do something.  One popular way to do this is to post a slideshow tutorial.  In the olden days (circa 1999), this required purchasing one of the more expensive versions of Microsoft Office which included Power Point (or similar).

But this is 2011, and this can now easily be done using your favorite photo-sharing site, such as Photobucket, or Flickr.  Some of the social networks even have this feature, such as Facebook, as do some blogging platforms, such as Wordpress.  Koinup, an international site for those who enjoy virtual art has created entire gtoup dedicated to photo editing, here, using what they call "storyboards," which are the same as slideshows.

Below, I have posted an example of how to do this in Photobucket.

A great Christmas gift for people over 50: Google's Tech Support Care Package

Posted Tue, December 14, 2010 by Jennifer Pointer

Tech Support Package

Are you the most tech-savvy person in your family and/or circle of friends?  Are you tired of being the "go-to" person for computer problems that usually call for a "re-boot?"  If so, you might want to check out TeachParentsTech.org, which allows you to customize a how-to video package, choosing from 51 videos on how to do everything from retrieving your e-mails on your phone, to creating a blog, to making a screen print and cropping a photo.  While you're laughing at your parents, don't be surprised if you accidentally learn something in the process.

Of course, this won't work for me.  The recipient at least has to at least have computer access, which my parents do not.  I actually read my folk's e-mail to them over the phone, or print them out and mail them via snail mail.  Sigh.  But for those of you whose families are "on the brink" of jumping into the 21st century, this might be the perfect gift.

Just go to TeachParentsTech.org, and complete the form, choosing the recipient, category, video(s), and commentary.  The result will be something that looks a bit like the image posted above, which will be sent to your loved one by e-mail.  Ho ho ho!
