From a business perspective, what do the words "optimizing content" mean to you? Your answer may very well be "keywords" or "adding links". It’s almost always implied that the goal is to improve your search rankings and visibility on Google, which is accurate, but it goes much further.

Optimization isn’t just only about drawing in visitors from search engines. You want all of your content, including news articles, videos, product descriptions, and testimonials, to be easy to find on every major portal, hub and platform. That's why companies should take advantage of secondary search engines while their larger competitors are busy vying for the #1 Google spot. So, rather than limiting your business growth by using only one platform, let's take a look at three other sites to consider investing your time and energy.

#1 Bing

People often dismiss this search engine, but they're doing their business a disservice. With Bing users can add various business locations, pictures and video, and more for free. Also, because Bing is the default search engine for many desktop and tablet owners they automatically opt for Bing over Google due to the convenience.

#2 YouTube

As of 2018, YouTube had approximately 1.8 users each month. YouTube has been referred to as “the world’s second-largest search engine,” so if your business isn't already taking advantage of YouTube then now is a good time to begin. The site displays billions of video clips a day, and yours can help you attract leads and sales if you take the time to optimize titles, descriptions, and outbound links.

#3 Amazon

Chances are you've made a purchase on Amazon.com either for personal or business reasons. However, have you given much thought to utilizing Amazon for your e-commerce business? Amazon has its own internal search engine and in 2018 the online Goliath captured approximately half of the U.S. e-commerce market. Those are just some of the numerous reasons why it's beneficial to list your products and services on Amazon. While the search term shoppers use their might not be the same ones they would prioritize on Google, it’s important to feature them in your content.
